Redemptive processing of impactful COVID‐19 experiences predicts well‐being among older but not younger adults

چکیده

People engage in autobiographical reasoning to make sense of major life events. This study examined whether younger and older adults utilized different strategies highly emotional impactful experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hypothesized that would show higher levels redemptive processing, exploratory these respective processes be associated with well-being for each group. Two samples (n = 245; ages 17–22) 224; 55–83) provided written narratives about their most positive negative from pandemic responded a questionnaire assessing well-being. found did not differ use processing. Redemptive processing was uniquely predictive among adults, although this relationship disappeared when events were considered independently. These results suggest ability positively reframe COVID-related could particularly important adults.

Motor Learning and Movement Performance: Older versus Younger Adults

Introduction: Motor skills play an important role during life span, and older adults need to learn or relearn these skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate how aging affects induction of improved movement performance by motor training. Methods: Serial Reaction Time Test (SRTT) was used to assess movement performance during 8 blocks of motor training. Participants were tested i...

Below-baseline suppression of competitors during interference resolution by younger but not older adults.

Resolving interference from competing memories is a critical factor in efficient memory retrieval, and several accounts of cognitive aging suggest that difficulty resolving interference may underlie memory deficits such as those seen in the elderly. Although many researchers have suggested that the ability to suppress competitors is a key factor in resolving interference, the evidence supportin...

Younger but Not Older Adults Benefit from Salient Feedback during Learning

Older adults are impaired in reinforcement learning (RL) when feedback is partially ambiguous (e.g., Eppinger and Kray, 2011). In this study we examined whether older adults benefit from salient feedback information during learning. We used an electrophysiological approach and investigated 15 younger and 15 older adults with a RL task in which they had to learn stimulus-response associations un...

Cardiorespiratory Fitness Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in Older But Not Younger Adults.

OBJECTIVES Aging is associated with declines in executive function and episodic memory. Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) has been associated with enhanced executive function in older adults (OA), but the relationship with episodic memory remains unclear. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between CRF and cognition in young and OA and whether CRF mitigates age-related cognit...

Context-updating processes facilitate response reprogramming in younger but not older adults.

The current study used concurrent acquisition of motion capture and event-related potential (ERP) data to test the prediction that response reprogramming relies on context-updating processes, and that age differences in conflicting-response performance are related to context-updating deficits in the elderly. Participants performed a motor sequencing task that included prepotent pairs of key pre...
